NEM Stake Auction Details: A Chance to Obtain a Stake!

Utopianfuture has revealed the details associated with the auction of the 155 stakes (made available from the removal of sockpuppets), quoted below:
NEM public auction explanation
155 NEM stakes will be put on a public auction (155 million NEM)
The auction will happen in Bitcoin blockchain and follow the multi unit auction format. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiunit_auction
How does it happen if X stakes are put on the auction ?
  1. On the auction day, a Bitcoin escrow address will be revealed at a designated time.
  2. Each transaction to the escrow address will be considered a bid for 1 stake. Two transactions from the same address to the escrow address will be considered two separate bids.
  3. The auction will last at least 24 hours (but less than 36 hours).
  4. Bidders could monitor the bidding process in real time via Blockchain.info
  5. When the auction ends, X highest bidders (X biggest transactions) will win X stakes.
  6. We will refund all non-winning bids minus the transaction fee and a service fee. All winning bids will receive back the difference between the winning bid price and lowest winning bid price minus the transaction fee and a service fee. Service fee is for the escrow service (for tallying and refunding the bids).
  7. Example: there are 3 bids 1 btc, 1.2 btc and 2 btc and all are winning bids. Since 1 btc is the lowest winning bid price then bidders of 1.2 btc and 2 btc will win a stake and get a refund of 0.2 and 1 btc respectively.
  8. There is a limit of two bids for each sending address and taint analysis will be used on the escrow address to make sure no address wins more than 2 stakes.
  9. The sending address of the winning bid will be the identifier of the owner of the won stake. Therefore the winning bid sender should later provide a NEM address to receive the share via a signed message from the sending address. Signed message could be done via popular bitcoin wallets such as multibit, bitcoin-qt or blockchain.info.
  10. Bidding recommendation: bidders should consider placing only 1 bid if they want to buy 1 stake and placing the highest bid that they are willing to buy. Since the buying price for all stakes will be equal to the minimum winning bid, there is no risk of over-paying for a stake.
There will be 10 stakes offered in the first test-run auction in about 2 weeks or so (it will be held on Saturday-Sunday frame) and we plan to offer regular auctions every week until close to the official launch. (open Alpha should be released before the auction)
Let me know if you want to be the escrow for the auction, you should follow all the above rules but being able to set the service fee yourselves. The entire service fee will go to the escrow and he will hold the fund for the winning bidders until NEM officially launch.

Full Bitcoin nodes are steady on the decline: Is the increased use of lightweight clients (like MultiBit) instead of full-node clients (like Bitcoin-QT aka Bitcoin Core) the reason?

Bitcoin-QT, Electrum, MultiBit, Blockchain- My Wallet, Cold-Storage? What do you recommend someone that has never owned bitcoins?

I'd appreciate some expert knowledge, as all the information I read doesn't justify one service over the other. I'd like personal tales and relatable comments. I've read the Getting Started guide multiple times. Personally leaning towards having 'cold-storage' and putting a USB drive in my sock drawer at home. Please give me serious suggestions and ideas.

Help! Missing some BTC after transferring to new computer and from bitcoin-qt to multibit

I just transferred my keys to another computer and am now missing some BTC. I've traced it back to one transaction that doesn't appear on my old wallet (qt), but does appear in my new wallet (Multibit).
Here's the transaction:
https://blockchain.info/tx-index/d19211b01d024bb918214f629b21e83fe607845161e8dc6281522e0d6b71a6e1
I'm now missing approximately .6 BTC and I cannot figure out what I am missing and what happened. All of my addresses are showing up in the new client. The strange part is, there is one transaction that appeared in the new Multibit client that I never did, and this transaction is missing from my original client.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Added detail

Bitcoin-qt or Multibit on Mac?

I tried Bitcoin-qt on my macbook pro but it just never seems to synch with the network. The bar at the bottom has been like at 25% for 4 days. So I switched to multibit wallet. How come multibit doesn't do all that synching business?

Confused, can anyone offer some advice (Discrepancy between Bitcoin-QT, Multibit and Blockchain.info)

I'm sick of downloading the blockchain as it is causing me connection issues and am attempting to switch to Multibit. I have successfully exported and imported my private key from Bitcoin-QT and imported to Multibit but my balance is displaying incorrectly. I have approximately 0.2 mBTC showing in my Multibit wallet. In my Bitcoin-QT wallet I have between 0.5 and 1.0 BTC. I have looked at the public address of my wallet on blockchain.info and it shows strange behaviour. Every time I've spent BTC since May '13, it has created a transaction sending the correct BTC to the destination address and the remainder to another address, each time a new address. It then sends from that address to the next et cetera.
I have been spending using the same wallet file (showing the original address and 1 generated vanity address) since 2011 without issue. Though blockchain shows that address having a balance of nothing (the same as my Multibit client) I have been able to spend without issue until today. I will provide the blockchain address for my original wallet under advisement, but I'm not sure how secure it is at this point. I have a fair understanding of the protocol, but I don't understand how this has happened.

Security of Multibit vs bitcoin.qt

I use the bitcoin qt client to send/receive bitcoin payments, but the last time I synced (yesterday), the block chain size has ballooned to 14 GB. I am thinking of using Multibit, but I hear that it is less secure because it does not encrypt your wallet. Is this true? Also, if I really want to use bitcoin qt, is there a way to reduce the application's hard drive footprint?
Thanks in advance!

Unconfirmed for over 30 minutes on blockchain.info. I have transactions sitting for over 30 minutes now and I paid a transaction fee of .0001 to .0002 for each of them. A question: If I use multibit or bitcoin-qt, will the transactions be faster?

Have anyone built Trusted SMS service for Bitcoin-QT & Multibit?

Sometimes I will withdraw BTC from Bitstamp. And sometimes the withdraw does not work immediately.
In order to account check in time, I have to wait online until it broadcasts and my Bitcoin-QT & Multibit pops that information.
Has anyone built SMS service for Bitcoin-QT & Multibit? So I can have a long-distance race with cellphone while waiting the withdrawl.
Email alert service will be ok. I can easily receive this alert in the email from cellphone, or I can build a connection between email and SMS easily.
Thank you very much.

How large can the message store (messages.dat) grow?

I've just started to experiment BitMessage. I've realized that the message store ($HOME/.config/PyBitmessage/messages.dat) weights ~90Mb. IIRC, this contains all the messages exchanged over the last 2 days. Am I correct?
If indeed I am, is there a way to make sure the file will not overgrow if/when Bitmessages scales to 1000x more users?
